Artistic director: wes gordoninspiration: wes gordon presented his second collection at the new york historical society under the watchful eye of carolina herrera, choosing flowers as the base of his work, allowing them to flourish in his new collection.collection: volumes and colours. taffeta dresses are worn like kaftans, blouses have xxl sleeves and sheath dresses are finished with a bow on one shoulder. floral prints in vibrant tones rejuvenate silhouettes. a contrast to slender suits with cut outs that give us a glimpse of the body.note: the reference to robert mapplethorpe’s floral photos in the collection, who also photographed mrs. herrera many times…interview with wes gordon:my starting point for this season was to sit down and really create a palette of the most beautiful shades. the perfect yellow that feels like sunshine and orange that packs a punch and is vibrant but that you can still wear, a pink that feels like laughter and an azure blue that is so pigment rich that you can’t help but look at it. and ultimately, the carolina herrera woman is colourful, and this was a collection for her.we have a fantastic atelier who can drape the most exquisite things, and for me the silhouettes, it was about extremes, we had long and floaty and then we had short short and nothing in-between, and i really liked that. the tailoring was, you know, i find that the bigger the dresses the sharper the tailoring and i like that juxtaposition and that contrast. music from the show (for use only in context of the show, under cover of the right to information).
