Designer: roland mouretinspiration: the show took place at london’s national theatre, with a soundtrack that included marianne faithfull, nina simone, marie laforêt and johnny hallyday. a way of linking two worlds, the french origins of the designer and the idea of an assumed femininity crossing boarders. collection: a play on textures and allure. cape coats in alpaca wool or jacquard tapestry motif make room for masculine tailoring, including a pink corduroy suit. the skirt becomes central, with a play on draping at the front, volumes at the base, the zip fastening is in bias if not down the length of the back, often coordinated with elegant lace blouses or jackets that become chic blouson jackets with zipped fronts. to note: the details of the sports socks reinvented in lace plus the elegance of the red-soled louboutin shoes. interviews with roland mouret and sophia neophitou-apostolou: roland: i wanted to use materials which remind me of where i come from, i wanted these materials from the mountains that remind me of my mountains, because this year it’s important to reaffirm our roots, we’re such creators, there are so many people in the business that the only way of redefining ourselves if to define where we come from. there weren’t any close-fitting dresses, i think that the skirt is the new dress, i think that the skirt adds to a woman’s wardrobe, an important piece where before it’s often been a secondary piece, the skirt is re-becoming an important piece. it was important that there was this contradiction of super heavy and super light, because it’s something that we are redefining about women, about sensuality, about the rigor of women, i think that we live in this period where we’re seeking equality and we really want to cross out the past which has been quite imposing, it’s between this rigor of women and this sensuality of women. sophia: roland for london fashion week brings a different texture if you like to the equation. it’s very much, about the woman, he really focuses on who she is in her sensuality, in her inner self, it’s about the confidence of the woman and i think he brings that to the catwalk. music from the show (for use only in context of the show, under cover of the right to information)
