Best of 2013 : this year's most intriguing fashion show scenery…

As proven once again by jean-paul gaultier, fashion shows remain, above all, a time to party. after the appearance of live singers back in march, dancing shines in the latest shows. we see remakes of ‘dancing with the stars’ with models playing along at jean-paul gaultier or step-dancing in force at rick owens on bercy’s hard floors. fittingly, this industrial, metallic aspect constantly returns to the runway. again, we witness lighting effects at rodarte and a very graphic spirit at vionnet in paris. jason wu chooses neon totem poles whilst metallic installations at saint laurent hang magnificently. once again, concrete floors and plunging views serve as decoration for proenza schouler whereas the city of london appears through the bay windows at antonio berardi. another type of décor: circles. these dominated the scenery of last march, with globes and setting suns and then circles give way to a cinematographic chaos, including debris and black dust for marc jacobs and car pile-ups chez givenchy. fashion shows really become film sets, planting us into ‘the fast & the furious’ at opening ceremony in new york or even ‘gorillas in the mist’ at moncler gamme rouge. this brings us onto another big trend: the jungle and luscious vegetation, as found at christian dior, hermès and even kenzo and its super high-tech rainfall. cinema and nature quickly give way to art. guest artists are present all over the clothes, notably at prada or jean-charles de castelbajac with his drawing dresses and his woman-canvas finished by the designer live at the show. we cannot forget the 90 works dreamed-up by karl lagerfeld, transforming the grand palais into an art gallery. within 10 minutes, a show succeeds in transporting us into an imaginary, completely magical world every season.music free of right/bandit & nikit 2012
