VSP launches line with Chalayan
Jul 7, 2014
The Paris-based leatherware company VSP, originally from Turkey but based in Paris, is launching a new line with Hussein Chalayan in September. Besides shared Turkish origins, both VSP’s creative director Kadri Soygül and Chalayan also enjoy architectural and asymmetrical cuts, the theme of the first collection.

VSP - which has been distributed through multi-brand retailers until now - will open the doors of its first flagship on August 19 on rue Debelleyme in Paris, between Prairies de Paris and Helmut Lang (third arrondissement). The official opening will take place during Paris’ ready-to-wear week in late September.
The event will coincide with the unveiling of the first VSP Chalayan collection, which is to include 22 ready-to-wear pieces.

"VSP" gets its name from Vespucci, the leather and shearling manufacturer founded in Istanbul in the late 80s that also served as a supplier for Western luxury brands. In 2006, Kadri Soygül, its CEO and creative director, decided to launch his own collections under the name VSP - as in “Very Special Pieces of Vespucci".
"VSP focuses on a minimalist design that is rich in sophisticated details,” explains Kadri Soygül, who has been managing the VSP brand for 25 years. “ We share a taste for asymmetry, and this is what allowed us to cross paths with Hussein Chalayan. It’s what gave birth to the VSP Chalayan collection."
VSP, which has a showroom in Milan and in Düsseldorf and works in Paris with the communications platform Ritual Projects, shows in main collections during the trade show Tranoï. As of now, the brand is sold in 15 countries worldwide, including at Harvey Nichols (London), Isetan (Tokyo), LuisaViaRoma (Florence) and Gio Moretti (Milan).
Based in London since its inception, Chalayan has collaborated with Puma and recently has started overseeing a "semi-couture" line for Vionnet.
