Traditional Weatherwear opens first standalone store

Traditional Weatherwear, the outwear, fashion and accessories brand that focuses on British design and the ever-changing British weather, is opening its inaugural standalone store on Newburgh Street this May.

Traditional Weatherwear was the original brand name for the classic Mackintosh coats and outerwear still forms the core of the collection. However, the brand also has classic staple apparel and accessories for both men and women.

The new store will measure 700 sqft. and be Traditional Weatherwear's only global store as a separate entity to parent company, Macintosh. The boutique opening is part of Traditional Weatherwear's re-launch since it’s earlier origins dating back to 1974, and the shop will feature a neutral colour palette, wood counters, floorboards and luxe chrome fixtures.

Samantha Bain-Mollison, Head of Retail at real estate investor Shaftesbury, says: “We are delighted to welcome Traditional Weatherwear to Newburgh Street. The brand will sit well adjacent to other heritage and classic brands including Filson, Shinola and Red Wing Shoes. A great addition to the Newburgh Quarter.”

Carnaby is a popular choice for brands making their UK debut - last autumn Japan's Descente chose the area for its first store in Europe. US eywear label Moscot also opened its inaugural European shop in Carnaby.
