Texworld not immune to attendance decline

Like the other Paris fashion and textile trade shows, Texworld and Apparel Sourcing experienced a decline in attendance at their latest edition. Held from 15th to 18th February, the session hosted the second edition of the textile technology event, Avantex, and the grand debut of the event dedicated to digital printing, Avanprint.

The two events brought together 12,684 visitors, recording a 7% decrease. The downturn was chiefly due to an 8% decline in the number of trade professionals from the USA, and 18% in those coming from Asia. The shrinking numbers are directly attributable to the safety directives issued by major fashion groups following the Paris attacks in November 2015.

This decline was partially compensated by an increase in French attendance (+5%), as well as in that from Holland (+17%) and Belgium (+10%). After a decline due to economic and political tensions, Russia recorded a rise in visitors (+42%), while growth was also shown by Poland (+8%) and Spain (+10%).

Messe Frankfurt, the show organiser, pointed out growth in attendance from Africa, up 5%. The growth was led by a 30% increase in the Moroccan delegation, and a 16% rise in that from the Tunisian industry.

"Business has not been affected in the least," enthused Michael Scherpe, the President of Messe Frankfurt France. "We were expecting the situation, and we thought the latter could also interfere with the deals struck at the shows. To our great surprise, it turned out to be quite the reverse. The shows managed to retain their visitorship, the purchasing executives and the reliable operators who were involved in the business dynamics. "

Texworld and Apparel Sourcing announced the postponement to October of their next Turkish edition, scheduled in Istanbul from the 23rd to 25th March, due to the country's political situation and the lack of Chinese exhibitors. The shows' next Parisian edition will be held from 12th to 15th September at Le Bourget. Between now and then it will be the turn of the shows' New York sessions, scheduled from 12th to 14th July.
