The Tunis based textile and fashion trade show Texmed is styling its eleventh edition – to be held from the 16th to 18th of June - as a central meeting place for the entire Mediterranean region.

Around 250 exhibitors have been announced to fill the 10,000m2 exhibition park in Kram. As for the visitors, the organisers are anticipation 3,000 professionals, of which 600 will come from overseas, representing major buyers, from large stores and importers. The trade show will be hosting big names such as Etam, Décathlon, Zara, Burberry, Adidas, Okaïdi, Monoprix and Carrefour and will be split into villages covering: off-the-peg, knitwear, denim/sportwear, lingerie/beachwear, professional clothing, textiles/accessories, services, fashion accessories and shoes. Furthermore, the trade show will be presenting the inaugural Texmed Awards in June in order to reward its most faithful exhibitors.

The sourcing trade show is carrying out an operation of seduction for the benefit of professionals from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, as well as the Benelux countries and Scandinavia. “These are potential markets for us, and we hope to attract entrepreneurs with an offer geared towards mini-series and fast-fashion,” explained Samila Hachich, the general commission of the trade show, continuing to say that the event was, “opening... more and more to finished products for a fuller offering.”

Within the framework of a governmental development plan that will run until 2016, Tunisia is showcasing its know-how. The country has close to 2,100 textile businesses, of which 83% work exclusively for foreign clients. Exports contribute €2.6 billion annually, with 82% of this figure divided between France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom (96% for Europe as a whole). Textiles are also at the heart of local employment, with more than 200,000 people working in the sector.
