Size? launches European offensive

Published
Nov 7, 2014

JD Sports is picking up the pace in terms of Size?’s European development. The streetwear brand, which offers the British sportswear and lifestyle group’s most fashionable products, is affirming healthy ambitions as 2014 comes to a close.

Well established in the UK with 28 stores, Size? took its first steps on the continent in 2012 in Paris. Its store on Place de la Fontaine des Innocents (1st arrondissement), close to Les Halles, offers sneakers (Nike, Adidas, Asics, New Balance, Van's, Converse, Saucony and Gourmet) and apparel (Carhartt, Stussy, Fred Perry, North Face, Penfield, Levi's Vintage, Lacoste Red, Farah, etc.). The store has done very well, in part due to exclusive offers. Two successful years in central Paris seems to have convinced the group’s leadership of the retailer’s potential.

As a result, Size? has just opened a store in Toulouse, on rue Temponières, and is preparing to open a 2,100 square foot location featuring a corner dedicated to Carhatt in Bordeaux on 8th Avenue St. Catherine. The space features three large, beautiful windows opposite the Galeries Lafayette that was formerly occupied by Freeman T Porter.

In France still, the brand is planning on opening in Marseille in 2015 on rue Saint-Ferreol, and is also considering cities like Lille, Strasbourg, Rennes and Montpellier.

But the most potent symbol of the brand’s ambition will be found in Amsterdam. On December 13, Size? is to open a flagship in a location formerly occupied by its direct rival Foot Locker (which is maintaining other prime locations in the Dutch economic capital). The 3,200 square foot space, located on the very central Kalverstraat, will feature a space set aside for Nike Skateboarding products.

Size?’s future store on via Torino in Milan

JD’s offensive clearly seems to be focused on Western Europe. Size? is also opening its first location in Milan, taking over a 1,300 square foot space from Pinko located on via Torino, near Santa Maria Beltrade.

In 2015, the group is planning to open stores in Germany and Spain. It aims to open an imposing flagship on the major thoroughfare Höhestrasse in Cologne in January, before launching another next summer in Berlin on Tauentzienstrasse. In Spain, there will be a store opening on calle Fuencarral.

This is just the beginning, though. The group has hinted further plans for cities such as Barcelona, Hamburg, Munich, Rome, Copenhagen and Stockholm.
