Shoptalk receives $2 million in funding for Shoptalk Europe
Shoptalk announced on Monday that it has received $2 million in venture capital funding to support the launch of Shoptalk Europe. New York-based Primary Venture Partners led the investment, which included Commerce Ventures, Bain Capital Ventures, and New Enterprise Associates. Shoptalk’s total funding raised increased to $5 million.
The next-gen commerce conference and exhibition first announced plans to hold an event in Europe in September 2016. Shoptalk Europe will be focused on innovation in retail and e-commerce and the evolution of how consumers discover, shop for and buy all of their physical goods, including groceries and fashion. Over 2,000 people are expected to attend the inaugural event, including founders and executives of Google, Ikea, Galeries Lafayette, Hudson’s Bay Company, Harrods, Lyst, Pinterest, Tesco, Tictail, and Casper among others.
"The support of leading investors that have funded some of the world's most successful and innovative direct-to-consumer and commerce tech companies, as well as early traction with speakers from highly respected retailers and startups, underscores the early and growing buzz for Shoptalk Europe," said Anil D. Aggarwal, founder and chief executive officer of Shoptalk. "With different countries and regions in very different stages of disruption, a pan-European conversation bringing all major hubs of innovation together is critical to understanding and implementing new strategies. Those who are not part of this conversation risk falling behind both their existing competitors and new entrants, as well as failing to meet the needs and expectations of their customers."
Founded by Aggarwal and Jonathan Weiner, Shoptalk launched in the US in 2016 with over 3,100 attendees, with almost 400 attendees being CEOs.
The next Shoptalk will be held at the Aria in Las Vegas from March 19-22, 2017, and Shoptalk Europe will be held from October 9-11, 2017 at the Bella Center in Copenhagen.
