Shiseido, the Japanese beauty group behind brands like Nars and Laura Mercier, has agreed to take the 10th floor of the Grade II listed Adelphi Building, located just off the Strand in the heart of London’s West End.

The new London office will occupy a space of 23,400 sq ft and join other prominent tenants at the art deco-designed development such as Conde Nast, Spotify and The Economist.

The Adelphi building was acquired by asset management company Blackstone before undergoing an extensive refurbishment programme. The building still retains its original 1930s Art Deco features while incorporating a more modern interior.

Shiseido’s plan to move to bigger premises comes amid a period of uncertainty with many financial and tech firms considering relocating to the EU after Brexit.

Ed Hodgson, director at Blackstone, said: “Contrary to perceived anxiety caused by political uncertainty, the volume and tenant profile of recent lettings at the Adelphi demonstrates a sustained appetite for premium office space in central London.”

Shiseido was represented by London-based retail property specialist Lewis Craig.
