Rigby & Peller stripped of royal warrant

Rigby & Peller, the luxury underwear brand which supplied lingerie to the Queen, has lost its royal warrant after its former owner published a book revealing details of her royal appointments.

The brand, which specialises in bras up to J cup, was awarded the prestigious royal title in 1960. A statement said it was “deeply saddened” by the decision, however it was "not able to elaborate further on the cancellation out of respect for her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Warrant Holders Association".

The cancellation comes after former owner June Kenton wrote a memoir about her work. The book, published in March 2017, revealed details about fittings with the Queen, Princess Diana and Princess Margaret, reported the Telegraph.

Kenton bought Rigby & Peller with her husband Harold in 1982, and has been credited with transforming the brand into a global lingerie destination. Dubbed by the media as the ‘Queen of Bras’, Kenton regularly visited Buckingham Palace, serving members of the Royal Family including the Queen, the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret.

She sold a majority stake in the business in 2011, but still remains on the board.

The lingerie brand will now have to remove the royal coat of arms from any promotional material and shop signs. The Knightsbridge-based retailer has nine stores across London, Guildford, Harrogate, Cambridge and Kent.
