Since 1996, the American brand Coach, famous for its leather bags, has entrusted its design decisions to Reed Krakoff. The executive creative director was even named president of the brand in 1999.
In 2010, Coach went so far as to launch a brand named Reed Krakoff. But the romance seems to be over. The group announced that Reed Krakoff did not renew his contract, which runs until June 2014 and that he would like to devote his attention to his namesake brand.
While Coach is already looking for a successor, the story of the future of the Reed Krakoff brand has not yet been written. "Coach is exploring strategic options for the brand Reed Krakoff," the company said in a statement. "This may involve a sale to a group, in which Krakoff would participate."
The womenswear-only brand falls under the "Contemporary" segment. Like Michael Kors or J-Brand, its image might make a big impression on investors, even more so because of its arsenal of accessories ranging from shoes to eyewear to leather goods.
The brand has been run by Valerie Hermann since 2011, former Yves Saint Laurent CEO. It has three stores and is widely distributed in cutting-edge boutiques and department stores in the United States and internationally.
