Primark poaches Marks & Spencer’s sourcing director

Published
May 24, 2012

The British value retailer has entrusted its sourcing activities to Garry Gordon, who had for six years been at Marks & Spencer, where he held a similar post.

Primark.co.uk

Garry Gordon has previously been the manager of Claremont Garments PLC, a textile company based in the Manchester area. He later served as director of operations of the British textile and apparel manufacturer, Courtaulds, which was later purchased then broken up by the U.S. group Sara Lee.

For now, Garry Gordon continues to assume his functions at Marks & Spencer. While Primark has confirmed his appointment, no date for such has yet been announced. Meanwhile, Primark intends to maintain the growth in sales obtained during the first half of this year – a growth of 15% to 1.6 billion pounds which was, however, limited to 2% on a comparative basis.

Primark has close to 240 points of sale worldwide, most of which are in Great Britain. Thus, the brand is looking to expand its growth internationally. Last August, it announced its goal to open as many as 300 new stores in Europe in the medium or long term. Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands and Belgium are particularly targeted.
