Première Vision NYC: priority to buyers rather than collective marketing

Published
Dec 15, 2014

No luck for Première Vision New York. The French fabric trade show will not take part in the first NYC Textile Week, to be held January 19-21. The American edition of the French event, meanwhile, will be held on January 13-14. Just a question of dates...?

Philippe Pasquet

After all, who could imagine that Première Vision would want to join forces with a group made up of textile trade show Texworld USA, its main competitor, German upstream trade show organizer Messe Frankfurt, American denim show Kingpins, which has begun to contend with Denim by Première Vision in Amsterdam, and global menswear gathering MRket?

"At Première Vision, we’ve thought long and hard about our market," said Première Vision SA CEO Philippe Pasquet. "It’s what determines the dates of our shows. And in New York, things are working out with 300 exhibitors and 4300 visitors. Many of our buyers are just a few blocks away from our event at Pier 92 in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Others come from Florida, from California… Our positioning is clear and qualitative. We’re not outsiders. We don’t need collective marketing to succeed."

The president of the Première Vision SA executive board takes, for example, the grouping together of several fashion and home trade fairs under the Paris, Capital of Creation, entity, which Première Vision is not a member of. "What could it really do for us," emphasised Pasquet.

The only downside, the executive admitted: "Of course, New York would certainly be great."
