Off-White, Vogue and Burton Snowboards collaboration hits stores, and slopes

A limited-edition snowboarding capsule collection, from the combined forces of Off-White, Burton and Vogue has just hit stores.

The ten-piece collection has been designed to reimagine women’s performance wear and is the brainchild of Vogue’s Accessories director Selby Drummond and Off-White’s Virgil Abloh, who called upon Burton to build it out. The synergy ties together Off-White’s signature deconstructive design and Burton’s technical nous, with Drummond playing creative muse.

Announcing the launch on Instagram yesterday, Burton stated, “Collaboration and progression is what the Burton Coalition is all about. With that spirit in mind, we teamed up with two creative forces Selby Drummond and Virgil Abloh to create the new collection. It redefines fashion while encapsulating the features and function of performance snowboarding.”

For Drummond, it’s the answer to what trendy girls wear on the slopes. At a launch event hosted by Vogue in New York, she said that she “grew up having to shop in the men’s section of snowboarding stores and wanted to create a chic alternative”.

Abloh’s much-hyped aesthetic that straddles couture and street is an increasingly disruptive force in fashion culture.

This isn’t the first time his brand Off-White has delivered on a big-name creative collaboration. In the past two years alone, Abloh – and Off-White’s signature design language – have been tied to a string of prolific partnership projects, including but not limited to Kith, Jimmy Choo, Moncler, Umbro, and even Ikea — on a fashion version of its iconic Frakta bag. In the recent “The Ten” collection along with Nike, Abloh rebuilt some of Nike’s most iconic running and basketball silhouettes.

There have also been several suggestions of an unconfirmed partnership with Louis Vuitton.

Snowboarding apparel pioneers Burton, designers of the Winter Olympic uniforms worn by the U.S. Snowboard Team, are also no strangers to working with big names. Last year, the brand teamed up with producer-DJ Steve Aoki for a limited-edition luggage line, as well continued its collaboration with Playboy on a capsule winter line.

The limited-edition collection from Burton, Off-White and Vogue is now available through select Off White stores, Burton’s NYC flagship and online.
