Mugler names David Koma as creative director

Published
Dec 13, 2013

London fashion week sensation, David Koma, will take the design helm at Thierry Mugler women’s wear from mid-2014. Groupe Clarins, which owns the fashion label, announced this morning that it is looking to refocus its efforts and put the fashion line back on the map.

Former Mugler designer Nicola Formichetti, and his two accomplices Sébastien Peigné and Romain Kremer, left the label label in April. Formichetti is now at the design helm of Diesel.

"I am deeply honored to take up the role of Artistic Director at Mugler - a House for which I have the utmost admiration and respect," Koma says. "For me, Mugler is the most extraordinary fashion house with an undeniably audacious heritage."

Koma’s first collection for the Mugler will be the Resort 2014 and his first runway show will be in September 2014 in Paris for the season spring-summer 2015.

Aged 28, designer Koma cites Thierry Mugler as one of his first inspirations, which can be seen from the strong silhouetters and dramatic cuts he sends down the runway in his own shows. Koma present his own collection at London fashion week and his designs have been seen on celebrities such as Rihanna, Cheryl Cole and Beyoncé.
