Melissa opens London pop-up

Published
Jun 26, 2018

Brazilian footwear brand Melissa has launched a temporary store in the world’s first ever pop-up shopping mall, the Boxpark Shoreditch in east London.

Launched earlier this month, the store is surrounded by international fashion brands, local food markets and niche pop-ups.

The space stocks Melissa’s SS18 Mapping collection, as well as a preview of its AW18 Open Vibes range. Its Out Of Office summer capsule collection, commissioned by the brand under the creative director of Studio Palmetto’s Maria Pizzeria and designed by Joey Yu, completes the experience.

The brand has also a flagship store in London’s Covent Garden. Called Galeria Melissa, the space looks like an experimental lab, with tech-infused installations and a LED structure giving it a futuristic atmosphere.

Although born in Brazil, the UK is an important part of Melissa’s story. In addition to being the home to one of Melissa’s three standalone stores (the other two are in New York and Sao Paulo), the UK has also recently seen the brand launch a special design competition for UK-based students.

The winner, announced earlier this month, will receive £5,000, a chance to design a product for Melissa and a trip to Brazil. London-based Argentinian designer Fiorella Gianini received the most votes from the public.
