British nursery retailer Mamas & Papas has announced that Jason Greenwood, currently chief operating officer, will assume responsibility for the business on an interim basis following the departure of CEO Jonathon Fitzgerald and chairman Derek Lovelock.

"Having completed a successful turnaround of Mamas & Papas, Derek Lovelock and Jonathon Fitzgerald have decided to leave the business,” said a spokesperson for the company.

"The shareholders would like to thank both of them for all their efforts over the past three years in returning Mamas & Papas to growth and profit in a tough retail climate.”

Fitzgerald, formerly chief commercial officer, was promoted to the role of CEO in December, while Lovelock - who was leading the business - switched to the position of chairman.

The baby clothing retailer reported an 11% increase in like-for-like sales in the run-up to Christmas, boosted by a new strategy to attract millennial parents and based on in-store experiences.

Jason Greenwood will assume the role of interim chief executive until a permanent appointment is made. He will report to Marco Capello, founder and managing partner of BlueGem, Mamas & Papas' majority shareholder.
