Lyle & Scott uses tradeshows to celebrate its 140 years

Published
Jun 28, 2013

Lyle & Scott has decided to celebrate its 140th birthday in style. The Scottish brand, founded in 1874 by William Lyle and Walter Scott in the small town of Hawick, has baked up two collections for the occasion.

Originally, Lyle & Scott was specialized in wool sweaters and cashmere. The brand then turned to golf in the 60s before its look got reinterpreted by the punk and casual movements in the 70s and 80s.

The brand re-emerged in the fashion world in 2003 with its Lyle & Scott Vintage line, through which it made a name for itself. And the Scottish brand’s golden eagle logo graces both its Classic and Contemporary Vintage lines, to be presented June 28–30 in Paris at the Capsule trade show and July 2–4 at Bread & Butter. The brand’s teams will also be showcasing the two anniversary capsule collections.

The 26-piece 1960 collection is modeled on the first golf lines from the 1960s. In lilac, pale blue, yellow, pink, green, gray, black and white, the models range from V-necks to cardigans to polo shirts to cotton sweaters. This line is aimed at premium and independent retailers.

The Lyle & Scott 140 line, which will only be available starting 2014, is destined for corners in department stores, leading independent multi-brands and vintage specialty shops. This capsule consists of 11 models that mine the tartan colors of Lyle & Scott — blue, black, navy and ivory criss-cross the collection’s sleeveless sweaters, polo shirts and jackets. The collection will bear the original L&S LTD logo as another brand identifier.
