Kering & Cannes Film Festival hold second “Women in Motion” at 2016 Cannes Film Festival

Published
Mar 21, 2016

“Women in Motion” supports women involved in cinema, highlighting their contribution and encouraging greater awareness of the need for diversity in the film industry.

François Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of Kering and Jane Fonda - Kering

“Women in Motion” was launched in 2015 by Kering and the Cannes Film Festival to expand the conversation around the place of women both onscreen and off in the film industry. In the program's first year, Jane Fonda and Megan Ellison were recipients of the "Women in Motion" awards. Now in its second year, the program will include speakers from outside the film industry.

It will also continue the tradition of presenting the two “Women in Motion” Awards on May 15 during the Presidential Dinner organized by Kering and the Cannes Film Festival and hosted by François Henri Pinault, Pierre Lescure and Thierry Frémaux. The first Award goes to an iconic women in film and the second Award to one or several up-and-coming talents.

François Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of Kering, commented: "I am proud that ‘Women in Motion’ has once again been given the chance to feature in the programme of such a major event as the Festival de Cannes this year. In 2015, ‘Women in Motion’ proved to be a powerful platform for supporting women in cinema. With ‘Women in Motion’–and even more so this year, given the real support we are providing to several female directors–we are taking another step towards real awareness and tangible changes, promoting a film industry that is more representative of the richness and diversity of our societies.”

Pierre Lescure, President of the Cannes International Film Festival, also spoke of the expansion of the “Women in Motion” program and his support of increasing diversity in the film industry as well as fostering a greater appreciation of the influence of women in film.  Thierry Frémaux stated: “The place, role, contribution and voices of women in cinema are undoubtedly issues that concern the entire profession and which will help the industry to evolve towards ever greater degrees of openness and diversity.”

Kering Group develops several renowned luxury and sport & lifestyle brands, including Gucci, Bottega, Veneta, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Brioni, Chistopher Kane, Stella McCartney, Tomas Maier, Puma and others. With a presence in over 120 countries, the Group had more than 38,000 employees at the end of 2015.
