Karl is standing on his perennial launch pad again. The German couturier’s first collection for the mass consumer market launched this Wednesday, January the 25th through Net-à-Porter, its first distributor which has an exclusive 4-week contract. The British online shopping hub is behind the round-the-globe launch, with organized events in Paris, New York, Berlin, London and Sydney.

This Wednesday at 16:30 Paris time, and simultaneously in the other cities (except Sydney which is scheduled for Thursday the 26th), the Karl storefront windows will be unveiled. In Paris, the collection will first be shown on the Boulevard Saint-Germain at Number 176 in a storefront window borrowed from Shu Uemura for the occasion. Purchasers will be able to scan codes to order the items directly onile via their smartphones. Prices start at 20 euros for a canvas tote.

Not far from there, at the Place Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Karl Lagerfeld himself will unveil "le cube", a video display designed especially for the launch. To refresh your memories: this line, as well as Karl Lagerfeld Paris (the luxury line expected to come out a little later) are coming out as part of the revival of the designer’s eponymous label. Its owner, the fund Apax Partners, intends to develop the potential of the Karl Lagerfed persona more than this had ever been done before.
