John Lewis sees 2.5% sales increase in week to February 6

UK department store retail giant John Lewis, which has begun releasing weekly financial reports on Tuesdays, saw sales increase by 2.5% to £70.56m in the week to February 6.

The retailer said it was a pleasing result, as the weather has shown no signs of settling in the last week. Even though shop sales were down overall, the retailer's New Format branches at Heathrow, Tunbridge Wells, Poole, York and Ipswich made particularly good headway.

Fashion sales were up 4.4%, helped by the poor weather, and John Lewis also said it saw some encouraging reaction to new season ranges. The Electricals & Home Technology directorate did the best, with sales up 5.4%. Liz Mihell, Head of Selling, John Lewis at home, noted that John Lewis' three year guarantee on Apple products was also popular with customers.

John Lewis is currently expanding abroad and will open a new shop-in-shop in Dubai's Robinsons department store in spring 2017. The company is also opening a 630 sqft. shop-in-shop at Robinsons' Kuala Lumpur store in March 2016.
