John Lewis retail director to leave next year

Department stores and online retailer John Lewis is to lose its retail director with Mark Lewis having been named as the new CEO of price comparison website Moneysupermarket.

The store will see lots of change next year with a new retail director

He will start in the role on or before 4 May 2017 and John Lewis, which will see major change next year with a new managing director too, confirmed the news this morning. The retailer said that Mark Lewis will continue in his current role throughout the peak trading period and will not leave until next year.

This is unsurprising given that his new role does not compete with John Lewis’s own operations. A successor will be announced in due course.

Lewis has been retail director at a crucial time for the firm and has overseen its successful move into omnichannel retail. Last year saw it announced that online sales would outweigh physical store sales by 2019.

Current MD Andy Street said Lewis has played a large part in the change over the last four years: “He has guided the online business brilliantly, has strengthened our talent in this area, and as retail director has been instrumental in bringing our two trading channels together.”
