The partnership looks to introduce a “Find Similar” button above every product, a feature that is powered by image-recognition technology and allows customers to quickly locate fashion products with similar colours, shapes and patterns on the John Lewis iPad app.

Aiming to offer an inspirational search, the department store is the first UK retailer to trial this tool within its online fashion assortment.

Alastair Harvey, Global Sales and Client Services Director of Cortexica, said: “The incorporation of Cortexica’s visual search and image recognition capabilities into the John Lewis iPad app marks a significant step by the retail sector in the adoption of innovative technologies and tools to enhance the customer experience.”

“We see visual search as being the prominent trend by which retail businesses and consumers interact with each other going forward.”
The Find Similar tool by Cortexica is currently used by a growing list of innovative global retailers, including Net-A-Porter, Zalando and Shop Direct.
