Jil Sander expands in China

Jil Sander is celebrating the opening of two new stores in Beijing and Shanghai this month, bringing the total number of Chinese stores to five.

The architecture of the both the stores evokes the label’s pure aesthetic. The Beijing store is situated in the city’s China World Mall and measures 220m² across one level, carrying ready-to-wear for both women and men, as well as accessories, shoes, bags and sunglasses, which are licensed by Marchon.

The Shanghai boutique is located in Citic Square and spreads across 180m² and is home all the same lines with the addition of Jil Sander NAVY, the label’s more affordable line.

For the occasion, Jil Sander organized a catwalk show at the Beijing Modern Art Gallery, showcasing the Autumn-Winter 2013/2014 collections for the first time in China.

The brand, owned by Japanese group Onward, is based in Milan where it also takes part in fashion week. The German designer returned to her namesake brand two seasons ago aged 69. Turnover at the brand is estimated to have risen to 140 million dollars.
