JD Sports has taken two units at Whitefriars Shopping Centre in Canterbury to create a new 8,195-square-foot home for the brand in Kent.

The new branch is due to open at the end of the summer following fit out to combine the units and bring JD Sport’s store design to life. It will be located alongside popular high street stores Next and Tiger.

James Air, group acquisitions manager at the sportswear retailer, commented: “JD are pleased to be relocating into larger premises within Canterbury to allow our loyal customers to benefit from a significantly improved product offer. Customers will love the look and feel of our premium new concept fit out.”

Thomas Seton, portfolio manager of TH Real Estate, added: “This letting with JD Sports is testament to our ongoing commitment to introduce popular brands to the centre, all of which aim to diversify the tenant mix whilst attracting a range of customers to Whitefriars.”

The shopping centre is a leading regional retail destination in Canterbury with other tenants including Fenwick, Primark, M&S, Deichmann, Topshop, Zara and Hobbs. The centre spans 600,000 square feet and is owned by Canterbury City Council.
