As if there wasn't enough bad news around for struggling apparel retailer J Crew Group at the moment, the brand's e-commerce website was down for several hours on Monday on what should have been one of its busiest shopping days of the year.

"We're experiencing issues with jcrew.com, but we'll be back up and running shortly. Sorry for any inconvenience and thank you," the New York-based retailer said on Twitter.

J Crew, owned by private equity firms TPG Capital LP and Leonard Green & Partners LP, was not immediately available for comment.

The retailer's conparabale sales have fallen for 10 of the last 11 quarters.
