Ikea unveils first-ever fashion show

Swedish furniture retailer Ikea this week presented its first-ever fashion show at Milan Fashion Week in collaboration with fashion designers.

The collections “Giltig” and “Svärtan”, which were developed in collaboration with London designer Katie Eary and Swedish designer Martin Bergström, are set to be released in 2016.
Eary, who has worked with Kanye West in the past, presented a colourful collection inspired by homeware accessories. Bergström’s Svärtan was the opposite: the designer developed the collection in India with 25 design students and together they produced a black and white line, which consists of bed sheets, rugs, papers, bowls, glassware and various metal objects.
"My idea was to create a modern interpretation of India and its cultural heritage," said Bergström.
Ikea is new to the fashion weeks, but not to fashion collections. The Swedish company recently developed a number of new collections with fashion designers and plans to continue doing so in the future. In addition to the fashion show in Milan, Ikea opened a pop-up exhibition called "Young Swedish Design".
