The latest addition to the Swiss watchmaker's iconic Big Bang collection brings a message of hope, celebrating life with a very particular motif.

In fact, the "Big Bang Calaveras" wristwatch has a skull on its dial, though its message is far from morbid. The watch comes in three versions, with 30 ceramic models, 20 steel models, and 10 red gold models being released.

Hublot is paying homage to "El Dia de los Muertos" -- or Day of the Dead with the"Big Bang Calaveras" wristwatch - Hublot

With this latest model, Hublot is paying homage to "El Dia de los Muertos" -- or Day of the Dead -- a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and a tradition that's recognized as part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage. Contrary to what its name may suggest, the feast is an upbeat celebration of life and freedom.

In the same spirit, the skull -- now a popular motif in the world of fashion, music and design -- is used here a symbol of rebirth. Ultimately, Hublot's new Big Bang watch bears a positive message of hope.

"By wearing a representation of a 'calavera' on our wrist, we become aware of the fact that death is a part of life, and that every moment we are given must be enjoyed to the full; it is also a symbol of remembering life and a message of hope, which is very poignant in Mexico. At Hublot, we love the positive, vibrant attitude of the Día de los Muertos," said Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe in a statement.

The skull featured on the watch dial is adorned with floral and carved motifs, as if embroidered onto the watch face, the case and the strap. The watch runs on the HUB1401 self-winding manufacture movement and is available with a case, bezel and case back in microblasted black ceramic, satin-fished 18K red gold or satin-finish stainless steel. It has a 42-hour power reserve.
