Hema, the Dutch discount retailer, has announced new hires for the two top positions in the company. Tjeerd Jegen, who was most recently the Managing Director of Australian Supermarkets and Petrol at Woolworths Australia, has been appointed CEO of Hema and will join the company on April 13, when current CEO Ronald van Zetten steps down after 12 years at the company.

Robert Darwent, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Hema, commented: "We welcome Andrew and Tjeerd to Hema and look forward to drawing on their diverse retail experiences. Although the Dutch retail market is facing significant challenges, Andrew and Tjeerd will build on the strength and heritage of the Hema brand, continuing to drive Hema’s development strategy and ensuring the company’s long term success."

Tjeerd Jegen, incoming CEO of Hema, said: "I am thrilled to be returning to the Netherlands and excited at the prospect of becoming part of an iconic Dutch brand with a strong heritage and proven domestic and international appeal. I very much look forward to working with the Hema team in this next stage of its development."
