H&M looks at Burton upon Trent for possible new store

Swedish fashion retailer is interested in opening a store in Burton upon Trent but hasn’t found the right unit yet, according to a marketing report.

The company would like to join high street rivals in Coopers Square shopping centre in Staffordshire, which houses over 60 retailers including Next, Clarks, New Look, River Island, Quiz and Primark.

A marketing report created by retail property experts Fawcett Mead for Vixcroft has revealed that H&M “has a requirement for Burton town centre,” reported Burton Mail on Monday.

Burton’s Octagon shopping centre has been trying to attract the popular clothing chain to take an anchor unit on the first floor, however H&M would only look at Coopers Square shopping centre as it requires adjacency to other retailers.

The marketing study forms part of a wider strategy aimed at revamping the first floor of The Octagon, which has struggled to draw visitors since the closure of Beatties five years ago.

In the past year, H&M has opened new stores in London, Stoke-On-Trent, Eastleigh, Merthyr Tydfill and Ilford, to name a few. The company has over 260 stores in the UK and more than 4,350 locations in 62 countries.
