More than 1,500 customers were in line on Saturday for H&M’s first store opening in South Africa. The eagerly awaited 4,700 square meter flagship store, situated in Cape Town, was unveiled by H&M’s CEO Karl-Johan Persson, H&M South Africa’s Country Manager Pär Darj and Store Managers Andries van den Berg and Peter Johannes.

The new store in Cape Town will retail the brand's menswear, womenswear and childrenswear collections, as well as accessories and H&M Home - H&M

“We have had an amazing response from our customers here in Cape Town and we look forward to bringing H&M’s concept of fashion and quality at the best price in a sustainable way to South Africa,” said Pär Darj, Country Manager.

Presenting a wide selection of latest trends and timeless classics for customers, H&M will offer women’s, men’s, and children's apparel and accessories as well as H&M Home with new items in store daily.

The retailer’s first store opening in South Africa was celebrated with a VIP party featuring prominent figures from the country’s fashion and entertainment industry.

Additionally, the day of the opening, H&M treated its fans with gift cards for the first 500 people through the door, and limited edition tote bags for 3,000 people.

A second H&M store is scheduled to open in Sandton City Mall in Johannesburg on November 7.
