Giambattista Valli reportedly in Carlyle's crosshairs

Giambattista Valli is an increasingly coveted label. Several investment funds are apparently eyeing the couture label created in 2005 by the eponymous Italian designer, who also styles the Moncler Gamme Rouge luxury collection. The Carlyle fund appears to be the keenest of the potential buyers, via its Italian subsidiary led by Marco De Benedetti.

This is by no means Carlyle's first foray in the fashion industry. The US investment fund had previously bought a stake in Moncler, which it has since sold, then acquired Dutch lingerie retailer Hunkemöller and Italian labels Twin-Set Simona Barbieri and Golden Goose.

According to MF Fashion, as well as thinking of acquiring Giambattista Valli, a Paris-based womenswear label renowned for its glamorous style, Carlyle is also looking further afield.

Its objective appears to be the creation of an Italian luxury conglomerate by also acquiring the BVM group which, since 2010, has been managing under licence Giamba, Giambattista Valli’s ready-to-wear line targeting a younger clientele. BVM also owns the Les Copains label and generates a revenue of approximately €40 million.

Contacted by Fashion Network, Carlyle has declined to comment.
