Columbia announces new waterproof, breathable outer layer textile

US-based Columbia Sportswear Co. unveiled Sunday their newest outer layer textile, which they claim will up the ante in sportswear's mad dash to develop the ultimate balance of waterproof and breathable.

They claim the new technology, called OutDry Extreme, is the most waterproof and breathable on the market, departing from traditional methods developed by Gore-Tex nearly half a century ago.

Starting in the spring of 2016, the textile is to be incorporated on Columbia's jackets, according to Women's Wear Daily, who spotted the story.
