Cheap Monday announces C/O recycling initiative

Cheap Monday, the Swedish fashion and denim brand that was founded in 2004 and is now owned by H&M, has revealed that it's launching a new eco-friendly project: C/O Cheap Monday.

The initiative will form the umbrella under which the brand will ignite consumer-facing initiatives around sustainability, the company said. As a part of C/O, Cheap Monday will install recycling bins in its stores in London, Copenhagen, Paris, Beijing and Shenyang.

Customers can leave clothes from any brand in the bins and the clothes will be recycled. Cheap Monday hopes this will help reduce textile waste and raise awareness of the tonnes of unwanted clothes committed to landfill each year. Cheap Monday owner H&M has been recycling clothes in its stores since 2013, and given customers H&M vouchers in return.

Cheap Monday is also introducing a C/O Cheap Monday Capsule Collection in stores and online in October 2016. The new collection will be hand-made in the brand's Stockholm studio from collected old and unwanted garments. It will include Cheap Monday's denim fit 'Tight' as well as bomber jackets, tees and sweats in unisex sizing. C/O Cheap Monday is strictly limited in number due to its hand-made nature.

The C/O initiative is launching together with I:CO, which recently also teamed up with Levi's to bring the denim giant's clothing recycling initiative to Europe.
