By Malene Birger: several appointments following founder’s departure
By Malene Birger has seen a good deal of changes recently. The Danish women’s brand overhauled its staff in 2014, following the announcement earlier this year of a very significant departure: that of its creative director and founder, Malene Birger.
Birger left the spotlight following the completion of the spring-summer 15 collection, leaving the studio in order to oversee operations. But this summer, the brand also saw no less than five new hires to fill various positions.
The label, which has been 100% owned by IC Companys since 2010 - a group associated with the designer since the beginning - has announced five appointments.
In terms of design, while its ready-to-wear is officially overseen by Christina Exsteen, who has been promoted, accessories now has its own department.
The new department will be led by Giulia Bizzotto, who was appointed head of product category in early July, following stints at Burberry and Lara Bohinc.
Higher up in the organization, a new production manager has been hired. Deepa Hingorani Tarachand will take up her duties in mid-September, having previously been in charge of production at Hugo Boss, Esprit and Karl Lagerfeld’s new ready-to-wear brand.
Changes have also been made in the marketing department with the appointment Victoria Archer, who previously worked at Sotheby's and Vivienne Westwood, as marketing manager. As of September 1, she will lead all of the brand’s B2B and B2C marketing activities, and further implement the brand’s growing marketing structure.
Finally, in terms of distribution, two appointments have been made. In July, it's a new export director who has made her debut at By Malene Birger. Having held the same position at Maje for eight years, Isabella Gollungberg will now work between Copenhagen and Paris for the brand. She will be charged with opening new markets for the company, which has been expanding abroad in recent years.
By August, By Malene Birger had a new retail and franchise manager for Northern Europe. Mette Aarup was hired from within the IC Companys Group, in which she has worked in retail for fifteen years, most recently as retail area manager.
Birger continues to expand its retail network, in particular with the announcement of a future opening in Hong Kong, in the Lee Gardens shopping center.
Carried out with the assistance a local partner, Vein, the store should be opened by the end of September. The 430 square foot space will offer ready-to-wear brand as well as accessories, which has been more and more of a focus for the brand.
It will be the second brand’s second opening in Asia, a few months after the launch of its first store in Tokyo. By Malene Birger now has a thirty monobrand stores throughout the world, and just under a thousand multibrand outlets.
