Burberry x Opening Ceremony capsule collection to launch July 13

Published
Jul 12, 2018

We know that Burberry is planning to change its approach to collections and drop more frequent, “exciting” limited-edition product in-store. And we know that it’s going to link up with Vivienne Westwood this winter, as well as offering part of its September runway offer for instant purchase.

But we didn’t know until late on Wednesday that it’s also going to work with Opening Ceremony on a capsule.

Not that anything has been announced officially. Opening Ceremony, the label driven by Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, teased the collaboration on Instagram with a grainy film and a single comment: “Burberry for Opening Ceremony: an exclusive capsule collection. Coming this Friday, 07/13/2018.”

It will be the latest of a number of exclusive collections labels are launching in deals with retailers at the moment across the price scale, from Prada’s ongoing work with MyTheresa to the just-launched Karl Lagerfeld streetwear collection for Zalando.

The Burberry-Opening Ceremony hook-up looks like it has a distinct street edge too. The film showed a variety of pieces from graphic tees to the currently-popular logo prints and plenty of Burberry’s signature check.

But the images were flashing by so fast that there’s not a lot we can say beyond that. We don’t know anything about price yet either, although given Burberry’s much-talked-about focus on luxury, price tags are likely to be high-end. And of course, Louis Vuitton’s recent Supreme link showed that it’s possible to sell relatively ‘humble’ pieces with the right level of designer gloss and to keep prices high.
