Burberry’s rainbow check takes centre stage in new DSML installation

Published

Burberry has unveiled a unique installation featuring some of the hero pieces from Christopher Bailey’s final collection at multi-brand retailer Dover Street Market London.

The installation follows the presentation of the luxury brand’s February 2018 runway show on Saturday during London Fashion Week.

A capsule of re-issued pieces from the 1980s and '90s, discovered in the Burberry Archive and included in the new collection are displayed against a creative collage of prints on the ground floor of the St James’s store.

Club jackets, performance blousons, golfing sweaters and polo shirts feature a multitude of Burberry logos, while including totes, pouches, baseball caps, sneakers, slides, a shirt, a scarf and a reversible Harrington introduce the brand’s new rainbow check.

Alongside the re-issued capsule, there is a curation of vintage Burberry trenches, individually sourced, reproofed and restored in England, and all dating from circa 1960s to 1990s.

Burberry’s new LGBT+ focus also resonates with a collection of special and limited edition books, artworks and prints, published by book gallery Claire de Rouen in a rainbow palette, and showcased on the ground floor of the store.

Burberry’s latest collection marks the end of an era for the British brand, with designer Christopher Bailey bidding goodbye to the company after 17 years. He was responsible for moving Burberry’s show back to London in 2009 and transforming the small UK company into a global powerhouse.

Bailey stepped down as CEO of Burberry in July last year, and announced his departure as creative director three months later.
