21% of consumers plan to spend more money this Black Friday than they did last year, according to a survey from BHS.com. Just 9% of consumers intended to spend less.

On a regional basis, Londoners top the list with 32% of people ready to spend more money, while the South West ranks last with only 13% of consumers intending to buy more this year.

BHS.com commissioned market research company Viewsbank to survey 1,046 people across the UK. Interviews were conducted online and took place between 10th and 13th November 2016.

In total, 58% of people plan to take part in the annual Black Friday weekend, and 38% of them say their increased expenditure will be £100 or more.

However, the majority of consumers will be doing more online shopping this year.

“Our research suggests that retailers are going to be busier this Black Friday than they were last year, with customers buying more and spending greater amounts.  However, there may be less footfall as more shopping is carried out online,” said David Anderson, Managing Director, BHS.com.

“Online shopping is growing rapidly in the UK and this is a key reason why we felt it was viable to relaunch BHS as an online retailer in this country,” he added.

Since relaunching online at the end of September, BHS has rolled out a number of lines to build momentum in the UK retail market. The fashion company will be taking part in this weekend’s shopping bonanza with specials offers including 50% off all hampers, 25% off all gifts and 60% off Freshwash bedding.
