American Eagle Outfitters files lawsuit against Indian label

According to India’s Economic Times, the US-based Retail Royalty Company, owner of American Eagle Outfitters, has filed a trademark infringement case in the Delhi High Court against the Indian fashion retailer Pantaloons.

The trendy American retailer, which has registered trademarks for its brand and logo, has alleged that the Aditya Birla Group’s Urban Eagle Authentic Outfitters brand is “deceptively similar” to its American Eagle Outfitters brand and logo.

Pantaloons Fashion announced during the day: “While the copy of the Court Order is awaited, it is hereby informed that the Court recorded that 'Urban Eagle' brand and its logo is not deceptively similar to the American Eagle brand and its logo. Therefore, Pantaloons has been allowed to continue usage of its existing Brand Name and Logo, except the usage of the words 'Authentic Outfitters' in its products."

Retail Royalty is the owner of American Eagle Outfitters, an on-trend clothing and accessories retailer that has operations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, China, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, and ships to 81 countries through its websites.
