Work has begun on the 195,000 sq ft Designer Outlet Cotswolds in Gloucestershire. The centre marks European operator ROS Retail Outlet Shopping’s first venture in the UK market.

The core premium designer outlet and lifestyle retail destination will provide up to 90 stores, restaurants and cafés in a Cotswold-style village environment.

It will offer aspirational brands across fashion, athleisure, footwear and lifestyle. It will also feature a flagship garden centre, plus 850 homes and a range of local amenities.

The Vienna-headquartered company, which operates designer outlets in Germany, Poland, Italy and Spain, is working with Cheltenham-based developer Robert Hitchins to build Designer Outlet Cotswolds at junction 9 of the M5 motorway in Gloucestershire.

Importantly, the designer outlet will benefit from a sizeable local catchment area, with more than 9.8 million people living within 90 minutes’ drive of the site and over 23 million tourists visiting the 'Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' every year, ROS Retail Outlet Shopping noted.

Plans for the 180-acre mix-use development were first announced 14 months ago with work beginning this autumn as planned. The first phase of the development is expected to open towards the end of 2022.

Announcing the initial plans, Simon Tothill, property & development director of Robert Hitchins, said: “Designer Outlet Cotswolds will be an eye-catching development reflecting the architecture and materials of the historic towns and villages of the Cotswolds.

"We’ll be creating a state-of-the-art retail destination with contemporary and adaptable units suited to the needs of modern shopping and dining. With a comfortable and welcoming environment, this will be a memorable addition to a day-out in the Cotswolds”.
