In July this year, international tourists accounted for 16% of footfall at Westfield London, compared with 11% of shoppers in July 2015. There was also an increase in the average international consumer spend at both centres - at Westfield London, average international consumer spend increased from £110 in July 2015 to £186 in July 2016, while it was up from £102 to £162 at Westfield Stratford.

The biggest spenders at both centres are still Chinese tourists, with average consumer spend among this market increasing 165% YoY in July at Westfield Stratford City. At Westfield London, the increase was 23% for the same period. The Village, the luxury shopping area at Westfield London, saw a 33% increase in spend from Chinese shoppers in July.

Every year, over 100 different nationalities visit the Westfield centres. Most are Europeans, but Middle Eastern and Asian tourists made up over 40% of international shoppers at Westfield London, and 25% at Stratford City, in July.

Myf Ryan, Chief Marketing Officer, Westfield UK and Europe from Westfield commented: “We are delighted to see such a variety of international visitors coming to experience both Westfield centres in London. We are working closely with the travel industry and our current and new retailers, to ensure we continue to offer the best shopping experience in London and develop new initiatives which attract oversea visitors to our centres. As a result we have seen the number of tourist shoppers at Westfield has increased year on year with average international spend up at Westfield London nearly 70%.”
