We Invented The Weekend announces Salford festival with fashion pop-ups

Published
Apr 20, 2023

Hailing the event as a ‘festival of free time’, We Invented The Weekend is a new two-day fashion- and culture-led event to be staged in Salford in June.

Central to the free event, which is expected to attract over 150,000 visitors, will be a range of fashion pop-ups and workshops held across MediaCity and Salford Quays, Manchester, on 3-4 June.

Community Clothing, an ethical clothing brand based in the North, will be leading a swap shop over the two days. Meanwhile Community Clothing’s founder and presenter of BBC’s Great British Sewing Bee, Patrick Grant, will join Wayne Hemingway to discuss sustainable fashion and the history of the local textile industry.

The festival will also host over 100 free ‘We Get Creative Workshops’ delivered by designer/makers from the region.

This includes Hot Bed Press – a workshop designed for attendees to create their own-designed tote bag, while Ghetto Fabulous will host a workshop aimed at teaching the whole family how to ‘werk’ the runway and create a picture-perfect pose.

There will also be talks on ethical fashion in collaboration with the University of Salford, as part of the ‘We Think Big’ talks series hosted by industry leading activists, campaigners and entrepreneurs.
