The 10th season of Eco Fashion Week (EFW) will take place in Vancouver from April 9 to the 14.

The event which features speaker series, industry panels and runway presentations seeks to showcase and promote sustainable practices in the fashion industry.

Among the runway events, students from the Visual College of Art & Design's (VCAD) Fashion Design program will present a collection created from upcycled clothing on April 11.

The collection created from 81 pounds of discarded clothes all handpicked by students at Value Village, will feature 30 pieces.

“The purpose is to show how to close the loop of clothing that is normally thrown in the dump when not used," says Natasha Campbell, Applied Arts Department Head at VCAD, in a news statement. "This collection is created by a team of student designers with the guidance of our instructing designers and industry professionals."

While the challenge was to create a new collection created from second-hand clothing, the ultimate goal is to demonstrate how eco fashion can be repurposed into stylish clothing.

Other events include a speaker series on April 13 with Sustainability Manager at Levi and Strauss Co., Kyle Rudzinski, and Head Designer and Owner of Fluevog Shoes, John Fluevog.
