Effective December 2, 2020, Marein-Efron’s promotion will see her oversee all financial operations at the company, which owns the Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, BHLDN, Free People, FP Movement, Terrain, Nuuly and Menus & Venues brands.

The executive joined URBN as director of financial, planning and analysis in January 2013, before being promoted to her most recent role.

Prior to URBN, she spent more than eight years in financial roles at the Campbell Soup Company, having previously served as North America finance director at Godiva Chocolatier from 2000 to 2004.

After completing a BS in accounting and decision sciences and an MBA in finance at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, Marein-Efron began her career at Arthur Anderson in 1991, before moving on to General Motors.

“I am pleased to announce Melanie’s promotion to be our new chief financial officer, and I welcome her to our executive leadership team,” said URBN chairman and CEO Richard A. Hayne in a release. “I am confident Melanie will approach her new role with the same energy, dedication and thoroughness she has displayed since joining URBN eight years ago.

In the third quarter ended October 31, 2020, URBN announced net income of $76.7 million, up 38% year over year, on sales of $969.6 million.
