UK finalist Kévin Germanier takes home EcoChic Design Award 2014/15

This year's EcoChic Design Award, organised by fashion NGO Redress, was won by Central Saint Martins student Kévin Germanier, who represented the UK for the sustainable fashion design competition.

Germanier will now design the first up-cycled collection for Shanghai Tang, the Chinese luxury brand. “Making it to the final of The EcoChic Design Award has been an exceptional experience. Winning this prize is an unprecedented opportunity for me as an emerging designer to create a collection that represents the future of fashion design, production and consumption,” said Germanier.

Hong Kong's Victor Chu won the second prize and will design textile waste-reducing uniforms for the Chinese restaurant T'ang Court in Hong Kong's five-star hotel, The Langham. The third prize went to Laurensia Salim from Singapore.

Ten designers in total competed for the prizes. The EcoChic design award targets designers, as they are thought to influence the majority - 80%-90% - of the environmental and economic costs of a product.
