UKFT working on a new National Apprenticeship for Garment Makers

Published
May 1, 2019

UKFT has launched a consultation on a new apprenticeship standard for the clothing manufacturing sector in Britain.

The British organisation is working with a group of tailoring, couture, and high-end garment manufacturers to find out if there is enough support for a new apprenticeship standard for ‘Garment Makers’ (Level 3), aimed at aimed at roles including trainee couturiers, sample makers, tailors, dressmakers, costumiers and sample machinists.

The standard lists the key duties and the knowledge, skills, and behaviours expected of a competent person employed in these roles.

“Once approved, this apprenticeship and the relevant funding will be available to all employers, so we want to make sure the content is right, fit for purpose and appropriate for our industry,” said UKFT on its website.

The consultation will close on 10 May, and the standard will be then submitted to the Institute for Apprenticeships to seek approval before drafting the apprenticeship end point assessment plan.
