UK's Lyle & Scott introduces new beacon technology

Lyle & Scott, the Scottish heritage brand, has launched beacon technology in its flagship store on Carnaby Street, London.

The beacons aim to bridge the gap between on- and offline retail. Users download the Iconeme app and beacons are then triggered by a user's phone from a distance of up to 30m. They can be concealed within the store, sending messages in the form of an alert.

For example, shoppers can find out the prices of products on display and be pointed to where they are in the store. The beacons work 24/7, so consumers can access information even when the store is closed.

At Lyle & Scott, the beacons are linked to the mannequins in the window display. If the initial beacons are successful, the technology could be rolled out to other stockists.
