The supermarket clothing brand will sponsor a Graduate Fashion Week award for the fourth year running, offering a year-long scholarship with its design team in Coventry to two talented graduates.

For the first time, the scholarship will not be specific to a particular category to ensure talent remains the focus. The paid 12-month placement will provide winners with essential access to behind-the-scenes moments, covering everything from buying to design, and will culminate in the launch of their own collection in 2020.

Additionally, winners will receive a mentorship with British designers Tamara and Natasha Surguladze from label Tata Naka, and Rob Jones and Catherine Teatum from Teatum Jones. Offering support and guidance, the brands will have monthly meetings with the graduates to review their proposed 2020 collections and invite them to experience a day in their design studio.

Rebecca Hitchings, trading director for Sainsbury’s and Argos said: “After our continued success over the last three years with our Tu scholarship programmes we are thrilled to be partnering with Graduate Fashion Week for a fourth year.”

Tamara Surguladze of Tata Naka, added: “We were happy to be asked to mentor this year’s Tu scholarship. It’s an extremely exciting opportunity for the graduates where they not only get a years internship with Tu but also get mentoring and guidance to create their own collection. It’s a great way to support upcoming talent in UK and we are proud to be part of it.”

Graduate Fashion Week, taking place on 2-5 June at the Old Truman Brewery, will present the work of hundreds of graduates from 95 of the most influential UK and international universities and colleges.

As part of the continued partnership, Tu will host a Tu hub within the sponsorship floor, and Anna Clarke, head of design at Tu, will join the judging panel for the Womenswear Award on 5 June.
