TK Maxx targets London expansion

Published
Mar 8, 2023

Expansion plans for fashion and lifestyle retailer TK Maxx could centre on London and involve smaller format stores.

TK Maxx

The discount retailer is understood to have contacted retail property agents with a list of locations the chain would consider opening in, according to the Evening Standard newspaper.

The list features a number of central London areas such as Notting Hill and Holborn, but also includes 28 locations outside of the City and West End the company would also consider, including Archway, Barnet, Elephant & Castle and Upminster.

Requirements from TK Maxx, working with property consultancies KLM Real Estate and McMullen Real Estate, are for 10,000-30,000 sq ft of space, at the lower end of that range compared to more recent deals, including a 30,500 sq ft store in Watford, west of the capital.

The retailer, which has 58 stores across greater London, has yet to comment on the claim.

London continues to be a major target for ambitious domestic and international brands on most levels with the capital’s retail footfall having returned to pre-pandemic levels and demand for key property in retail hotspots becoming increasingly hard to secure.
